ASAE case management supports security cooperation with Americas Counter Cartel Coalition partners

The U.S. Army Security Assistance Enterprise, or ASAE, recently supported delivery of approved security assistance capabilities to partner nations in the Western Hemisphere. Recipients included Paraguay, Panama, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, all member nations of the Americas Counter Cartel Coalition, or A3C. The A3C brings together 19 Western Hemisphere nations and supports the broader Shield of the Americas initiative.

Coinciding with some of the deliveries was a visit to several regional partners by an ASAE delegation led by Dr. Theresa A. Smith, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Sustainment and acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Defense Exports and Cooperation, and Brig. Gen. Jason Jefferis, commanding general of the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command. Both met with partner nation and U.S. interagency representatives to discuss security cooperation, modernization priorities, sustainment and enduring partnerships.

Many of the delivered capabilities will assist the A3C in its efforts to address threats posed by cartels and narco-terrorist organizations. The deliveries also support partner modernization, sustainment, and interoperability objectives through U.S. government security cooperation programs, managed by the ASAE, in support of approved partner-nation requirements and U.S. objectives.

“Each security-assistance case reflects close coordination among U.S. organizations and partner nations,” said Mario Oliva, USASAC liaison to U.S. Southern Command. “Timely case management and sustained engagement help partners build and maintain the capabilities they require.”

The ASAE’s work includes managing approved cases from initial planning through delivery and sustainment. Through coordination with the Department of War, Department of State, Defense Security Cooperation Agency, combatant commands, U.S. embassies, and partner nations, the ASAE helps deliver Army security assistance solutions that support long-term readiness and interoperability.

Security cooperation and assistance are components of broader U.S. engagement with regional partners. By helping partners sustain and modernize approved capabilities, the ASAE supports shared efforts to strengthen regional security and build enduring relationships across the Western Hemisphere.
